Man United believe they can steal Liverpool star when his contract expires

Despite a rather frustrating start to the season, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool looks like a side trending in the right direction.
If they can tackle their defensive woes there's no doubt they have the talent to mount a title challenge.
With the ultra-talented frontline of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Coutinho, the Reds always have a chance.

One play that has quietly impressed over the past three years since his move to Anfield is Emre Can.
The 23-year-old German, who was his country's squad that won the Confederations Cup this past summer, has been an integral part of the Liverpool midfield racking up over 40 appearances in each of the past three years.

His ability on the ball coupled with great engine and physical attributes makes him a perfect example of a modern footballer, but with his contract running down next summer, Liverpool have a problem.
If the club cannot agree a new deal with Can before January he will be free to talk to foreign clubs and sign a pre-contract deal.

Juventus have been credited with a long-standing interest in the former Bayern Leverkusen man, but according to ESPN via Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United are also in the running.

United are one of Liverpool's fiercest rivals, of course, and to have any hope of securing the player there is no doubt Jose Mourinho would have to wait until next summer to get near him.
However, according to the report, that works out just fine for the Red Devils boss as Mourinho views Can as the perfect replacement for 36-year-old Michael Carrick.

It would be a huge blow to the side that Klopp is building to see one of his young jewels move to a top four rival, but the fact that Can is yet to sign a new deal with the club is not a good sign at all.
Could United pull it off? Juventus obviously hold the advantage heading into January, but if Can is interested in pulling off a Sol Campbell-esque move and bides his time till the summer, it would be pretty clear what his intentions are.
